I began taking photos on a trip around the world in 2004, using just a small compact camera. I was dazzled by what I saw around me, by the awesome and outstanding beauty of our planet. As I began to open my eyes to what was around me I came to realise just how much we are part of this wonderful world, and of the fact that that each of can make a positive impact within it. I soon began selling online and holding exhibitions of my photography.
In 2007 I went to Sri Lanka to take part in a voluntary program using my images to raise money as a way of fundraising. This trip took me in an unexpected direction; I began discovering creative ideas and new doors opened. In January 08, I went for the day to take photos for the project Emerge; a wonderful project that teaches young rape survivors how to make colourful jewellery to provide them with a better future. As the day progressed, I could feel a sense of hope from watching these young girls making jewellery from colourful beads. It was then that I realised the power of colour as a symbol of hope.
Feeling inspired by Emerge and the colours of the country I began collecting images of colours of Sri Lanka, however, it was on my last morning in the country that I awoke with the idea for Bags of Colour; colourful eco shopping bags, made by women who have very few options open to them. I then returned to Sri Lanka immediately setting up the project with a local family, offering work for women living in poor conditions.
In November 2008 I travelled to Mozambique, to help build a shelter for street kids with a group of friends, and once again I collected images of the country. I am currently; promoting Bags of Colour and setting up The Colour of Hope foundation, with the aim to extening Bags of Colour to other countries like Mozambique.
